H1Z1 PS4 PC Gameplay: Sony Offers A Different Game Approach! ‘A Usual Game With An Unusual Game.’ Will It Be The Next ‘Zombie Thriller’ Game Phenomenon?

| By

H1Z1 introduced a LOT of new game features, characters, settings and functions to watch out!

Along with the confirmation of the release of a PS4 version of H1Z1 is a two hour gameplay footage played by Sony Entertainment. The trailer showed how this post-apocalyptic action adventure is filled with violent, bloody and gore set ups. Dropping some useful clues such as the free-for-all combo mechanics that taught players that each weapon will carry a special combo to strike out zombies.

The video also showcased the typical surviving techniques during a zombie apocalypse - scavenging for food, clothing and weapon.

"In the survival genre, it's very important to get the basics right," Senior Game Designer Jimmy Whisenhunt pointed out during the SOE Live.

H1Z1 is an upcoming free-to-play MMO to be released by Sony Online Entertainment in late 2014 for the PlayStation 4 and Windows. The game is a zombie apocalypse thriller set in the United States, in which players will have to interact with resources in the world to survive, build shelters and craft weapons.

According to game designer Adam Clegg, gamers around the world will see and experience a 'usual game with an unusual game'.

"We're creating our own persistent world and our own take on zombies," Clegg told us during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles this past June.

Sony Art Director Mat Brome, on the other hand, gave information about in-game characters development. "Coming soon we'll be testing out female characters, multiple character races, and even multiple new zombie types as well massive brawlers that won't let anyone stand in their way," he explained. "Even more exciting is the upcoming military wearable system with tactical vest, helmets of all types, and Special Forces gear as well."

SOE also revealed a brand new feature for the open-world title: Airdrops, which will see players battling to take control of the supply drops. Planes droppping down random care packages filled with different contents that are essentially up for grabs; where there would sometimes be some purchase involved, and unfixed location could be one of the coolest features in the game.

"Calling in an Airdrop does not guarantee you the Airdrop," Clegg explained. "That's the cognizant choice that you're making. You're basically triggering an event. You're triggering some type of entertaining thing to happen to you. It's kind of a different school of thought. Most people are like 'I'm buying this thing! I get it now!' But there's a completely different side of that where I'm paying for entertainment. I'm buying this thing, I'm creating this thing on the server, now all of the people on the server are going to see it, and I've just created this crazy event."

Plus, new wildlife features will be seen in the game. Aside from ravens and wolves, Sony has just finished adding bears in the game. "The bears are going to run faster than you," Clegg said. "They're very territorial, so they'll be in a smaller area. If you get too close to it and piss it off, it'll aggro you and go up on its hind legs and roar. Once you have a bear on you, you have to fight it, because you can't outrun it. They're definitely a big threat, but if you see a bear, as long as you don't mess with it, you'll be fine."

The developers have stated in a dev blog that they are trying to create more character choices, which includes giving priority in making female characters. Still, they are mostly trying to make sure that the core systems they have for the game is already in place and reliable before they aim to release.

"Once we have all those things in place, we can go into early access. We could've released early access a long time ago, but I think it would've been in a state where a lot of people play it, they play it once and they're like 'okay, it's not there yet, I'll play it later' and that never happens. They just never come back to it."
