For the second time, Taylor Swift was awarded Billboard Woman of the Year. The Grammy Award-winning singer first accepted the honor in 2011.
"Shake It Off" singer Taylor Swift is reportedly the first artist to receive the accolade twice.
In a statement, Guggenheim Media's Entertainment Group co-president and chief creative officer Janice Min spoke about Swift's award, saying "As one of the most influential artists of her generation, Taylor Swift has seen incredible success on the Billboard charts. Over the course of her career, she's charted 60 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 - the most of any female artist since her debut in 2006. We are tremendously excited to be honoring her as the 2014 Billboard Woman of the Year for the second time."
The award is given to a female artist who "has shaped and inspired the music industry with her success, leadership and innovation over the past twelve months." Previous awardees include Beyonce, Katy Perry and Pink.
Swift recently left her country roots and announced a full-fledged pop album called "1989." The first single off the new record became her second Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit and stayed on top of the charts for two weeks in September. Her latest studio effort will have an October 27 release and her new single called "Out of the Woods" is due out next week.
Swift is the fourth artist and the first female artist to twice have a record get 1 million first-week sales, according to Billboard.
American Express vice president of entertainment and sports marketing Deborah Curtis extended her congratulations to Swift for being lauded for a second time. In a statement Curtis said, "On behalf of American Express, I would like to congratulate Taylor Swift on this incredible honor. We are proud to be a long-time partner of Taylor's and are thrilled for her continued success and well-deserved recognition as Billboard's Woman of the Year."
Taylor Swift will be honored in a ceremony at Billboard's ninth annual Women in Music event at Cipriana Wall Street in New York City on December 12.
