Many people have high expectations for NBC's Constantine TV series because of the success of another DC Comics inspired show the Flash that debut on October 7. Then there's also Fox's Gotham and the CW Network's Arrow which is already in its third season. Not to mention that the film based on the same comics starring Keanu Reeves was also a hit. Matt Ryan, who plays the titular role, is aware of the pressure but his not feeling anxious as he thinks Constantine, which is based from Hellblazer comic books, stands out from other superhero shows. The 33-year old Welsh actor who was last seen in Criminal Minds sat down with entertainment website Movie Fone and there he dropped some Constantine TV series spoiler.
"I think what's great about him is he's not a guy in a cape, he's not a guy in a costume. He's not a superhero who has a power, he's actually a working class guy who kind of looks out for the everyday man. He uses his brain ultimately to kind of achieve his goals," Ryan said when asked what's unique about the new NBC series.
"He has all these magic spells up his sleeve and he can conjure things, but what he relies on most is his cunning and the fact that he can manipulate people. And I think what makes him really appealing is the fact that he's not a guy in a cape and a pair of tights, he's actually just a working class guy."
Ryan also insisted that the show will stay close to the material where it is based from. Proof to that is Constantine TV series spoiler last month confirming that Jim Corrigan will come to the show and will be played by Emmet Scanlan.
"The whole idea is to stay as true to the source material as possible, but when you kind of take something from comic book medium to TV you have to make it your own. I think we're really doing that. So we're trying to stay true to the core elements of the character and the DNA of the comic book and the character but also kind of making it our own as well. Hopefully fans can expect Hellblazer but they can expect our interpretation of it."
