Jason Bateman On Movie 'This Is Where I Leave You', Actor Says Film Is All About Family

| By

Jason Bateman stars in the drama-comedy film This is Where I Leave You with Tina Fey, Corey Stoll, Dax Shepard, Rose Byrne and Adam Driver.

The film is based in the novel by Jonathan Tropper and is directed by Shawn Levy. Levy also directed several movies such as Cheaper by the Dozen and Night at the Museum.

According to an interview with BworldOnline, Bateman answered what drew him to this project. He said, "Well, there was a version of it that was close to getting going at one point, and then that didn't come together fully for a bunch of reasons. And then when Shawn (Levy, the director) came onboard, he kept me a part of it. So basically, it was like through the same door, after a lunch, and him saying that Tina was going to do it. It was very exciting."

The film tells the story on four siblings who return home to attend their father's funeral. In the week they were all together, the siblings learn about each other in turn, help each other cope with their problems. Jason Bateman plays one of the four siblings.

Bateman also tells what appealed him to the film's story, "What I think is kind of interesting about it is that there's not some big, high-concept story. It's just about a family getting together and talking about stuff. That's obviously going to be a marketing challenge, but for us, as actors, that's what you want. It's not our job to figure out how to sell it but just try to figure out how to be believable with it. There's great writing in it. People talk good in this movie. That's about it."

45-year-old Jason Bateman is an American actor, director and producer who rose to prominence as a high-profile teen actor in the 1980s. In the 2000s, he appeared in several movies such as Juno in 2007, Hancock in 2008, Up in the Air in 2009, Horrible Bosses in 2011, Identity Thief in 2013 and Bad Words in 2014.

In 2013, Bateman made his directorial debut with Bad Words which was critically acclaimed. After finishing his second directorial project, Bateman accepted an offer to be part of the movie This is Where I Leave You with a star studded cast.
