Robert Downey Jr. participated in "Reddit AMA" yesterday to promote his upcoming movie "The Judge," and to answer fan questions about the possibility of "Sherlock Holmes 3."
"Yes, we have a Sherlock 3 in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that's a pretty tall order," RDJ answered, "Also, Perry Mason is a property I'm looking forward to developing further, going back to the 1931 book series...similarly to what we did with the first two Sherlocks, mining the original material for things that are 'new.'"
Late last year, co-star Jude Law also hinted about the third installment.
"We had a meeting earlier this year, the three of us, and I think it's being written now," Law told Digital Spy in 2013. "Warner Bros. have still got to agree to pay for it...I think they want to!"
Downey also praised his fellow "Sherlock" character Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the same role for the BBC TV adaptation.
"Very impressed with Benedict," Downey said in a statement. "Such smart writing on that show. I have screen envy."
Because of his back-and-forth with Iron Man, RDJ was asked about the film and his recent remarks to Deadline, where he hinted that he'd consider doing another installment of the popular franchise if his pal Mel Gibson directed it.
He explained, "It was an offhanded remark to a journalist and friend. I have other projects in mind for Mel and I."
"There [are] no plans for an Iron Man 4," he revealed with David Letterman in an interview.
When asked about the possibility of the new movie, the 49-year-old star said, "That's a valid question. Like it hasn't made enough money? Yeah, I guess they have too much money or something. There is no script for Iron Man 4. They do have a plan and I think they're going to announce it [soon]."
"Just between us, no. But I'm going to do other stuff with Marvel. I'm still going to be involved with Marvel and there's going to be plenty of fun stuff to happen," he also said.
