Atletico Madrid's Koke is one of the latest players to weigh in on the Lionel Messi Cristiano Ronaldo comparison and his comments will definitely irk Real Madrid fans. In a report by Goal.com, the 22-year old Spanish midfielder said that the Barcelona star is better than CR7. What made his comments more controversial is his choice of words.
"Ronaldo is an athlete, but Messi is a god," the Spain international told Al Primer Toque.
"They're both great players. I see them on the pitch and it's spectacular. It's tough to decide. You always want them on your team, and even though it's Cristiano, I'd choose Messi."
Koke has played against the two players in La Liga but never 'with' them so it is hard to believe what he is saying. However, for him, playing against Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is enough to size them up and compared with each other.
It is not just Koke who have made himself heard on the Lionel Messi Cristiano Ronaldo debate. After Elche coach Fran Escriba said that Cristiano Ronaldo is the Michael Jordan of football, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique didn't hesitate to match his comments by comparing Lionel Messi to another basketball legend, Wilt Chamberlain.
If Cristiano Ronaldo is like Michael Jordan, then Messi is like Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 100 points in one game," Enrique said.
The comments of these two tacticians hardly settled the debate. Most people refer to Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all time but that title isn't official. Some basketball fans are making a case for Wilt Chamberlain who owns the NBA's highest single game score at 100.
