Last month we reported that Robert Downey Jr. shut down all rumors of a fourth installment in the Iron Man series. The "Sherlock Holmes" actor told Variety.com:"There isn't one in the pipe. No, there's no plan for a fourth Iron Man" and that his red and gold armor will be seen next in the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's also been reported that the actor has signed on for a third Avengers movie, as reported by Mirror UK.
The actor has been in talks with Marvel is aiming for a paycheck above what he received in Iron Man 3, and with Marvel being notoriously know for being cheap, it seemed that a fourth installment wouldn't be making its way into production. Even Avengers director Josh Whedon admits that the superhero movie makers can sometimes make their cast work on a budget:
"In general terms, yes - Marvel can be very cheap, God knows. They can also be sensible and frugal" Whedon tells Deadline.
Earning $75 million this past year, Robert Downey Jr. was again named the highest paid actor in the Forbes list, with most of his success attributed in playing the role of Iron Man with each sequel grossing more than the last one.
Fast forward to now, the actor in a recent appearance at the Ellen DeGeneres Show answered a few questions for the host:
"I know there's gonna be a bunch more Marvel movies and...they have big ideas of how to do it best, and we're in the middle of negotiations, " to which Ellen responded with "So...'yes'"
The actor replied: "okay, yes"
Though nothing has been officially confirmed yet, it seems that negotiations are going well between RDJ and Marvel Studios, giving fans hope in seeing the playboy billionaire once again putting on the suit for a solo movie.
