Actress Angelina Jolie revealed that her mom played a big role in her life and she still uses her influences on her parenting style.
Jolie's mom Marcheline Bertrand had passed away seven years ago but Jolie still feels she lives her life under the influence of her beloved mom.
According to the 39-year-old Maleficent actress, "I feel in contact with my mother when I look at my children." She continued to tell the French magazine Marie Claire, "I can feel her influence over me then."
Jolie added, "I see that my way of raising them resembles the way she raised my brother and I. It's more apparent with my daughters Shiloh and Vivienne. My mother is there, present in this influence, all the time."
Jolie's mother had a pervasive influence over her daughter's everyday life. One of the most notable ones is Jolie's passion for charity and her significant role as an ambassador for the UNHCR.
According to Jolie, her mother had always been encouraging on her involvement in charity work. Jolie said, "She always tried to understand the complexity of the world. She had a great heart, which was sensitive to the world's violence."
Marcia Lynne "Marcheline" Bertand was the former wife of actor Jon Voight. She co-founded the All Tribes Foundation to provide cultural and economic benefits to Native Americans. The late actress also founded the Give Love Give Life organization to raise public awareness of women's cancers.
Jolie added about her late mother, "She was very soft but could move mountains for her kids. That's something I always admire in women: that mix of softness and strength."
Jolie's mother lost her battle against cancer last 2007 at the age of 56. The actress on February 2013, underwent a preventative double mastectomy to protect herself from the disease after her genetic history of cancer. Her mother, maternal grandmother and maternal aunt were all diagnosed and died of cancer. The actress' mastectomy lowered her chances of developing breast cancer from 87% to 5%.
