The film Gone Girl has reportedly risen at the top of the North American box office on it's weekend debut in theaters. Based on industry estimates, the film earned approximately $38 million.
In second place at $37.2 million, the debut of horror movie Annabelle was closely behind.
At $19 million, action-thriller movie "The Equalizer" starring Denzel Washington had dropped from first to third place. On fourth with $12.4 million is The Boxtrolls which is an animated film about an orphaned boy raised underground by friendly monsters.
The Maze Runner ran on the fifth with $12 million. The movie was based on James Dashner's best-selling 2007 young-adult dystopian novel. In sixth place with $6.9 million is the movie Left Behind starring Nicholas Cage. The film was based on a novel about the Bible's interpretation of end times which centers on a handful of survivors after most of the population is wiped out.
On seventh place comes the comedy-drama This Is Where I Leave You with $4 million in ticket sales. Next on eighth is the sequel starring Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd, Dolphin Tale 2, which garnered $3.5 million.
Guardians of the Galaxy went down to ninth place with $3 million. This film is the summer's blockbuster with cumulative sales of $323 million at its tenth week. Thriller film No Good Deed slid to tenth with $2.5 million. This movie is about a devoted wife and mother who helps out a charming and dangerous escaped convict.
Even before the movie was released to the public, Gone Girl, has garnered lots of praises from the critics. The film is based on a best-selling novel by Gillian Flynn and tells the story of a writer Nick Dunne who is blamed for his wife's disappearance.
The movie casts Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry. Affleck and Pike played the main characters which focuses their marriage's twists and turns.
