Samsung has done it again. The tech giant from Korea has mocked Apple yet again, through iPhone 6 this time, when it released its new video called "Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Endures the Gluteus Maximus." The video demonstrated that their smartphones can withstand the weight of a 200-pound man. The ad points out that our hips are stronger than we think and can do more damage than anticipated when combined with the pocket of our pants. While it fails to mention its biggest competitor by name, Samsung has no doubt targeted the "bendgate" issues of the iPhone 6 which has become the recent subject of media reports.
The Galaxy Note 4, according to the video, is not capable of being affected when put to the "three point bend test." It showed how the Note 4 can sustain about 25kg of force without deforming permanently. It returned to its original shape after more than a hundred times of 200-pound pressure of human and machine form. It then runs through a list of the device's features that add to the handset's durability which includes a metal frame, magnesium brackets, and "mutually reinforcing structure between parts." The ad ends with the tagline, " The Galaxy Note 4 is big, thin and light but strong."
Apple has remained solid in its statement that their new device is sturdy enough to stand the test of everyday real life use. During a rare press tour in a product testing facility in California, Apple performed an identical test with the same results. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were subjected to the same "three-point flexural" evaluation, which demonstrated their handsets were able to endure 60 pounds of force and 90 pounds of force, respectively.
The Samsung video has gone viral with 700,000 hits in 6 days upon release. Weeks prior to the bend test ad, the company released a video that says Samsung was the pioneer of manufacturing phones with large screens in 2011, which Apple has copied three years later. The said video has reached almost 22 million hits in 2 weeks after its release.
