Almost a decade after getting the boot from "Saturday Night Live", Sarah Silverman returns to SNL not just as a writer, but as host to one episode, with Adam Levine as musical guest.
The 43-year-old stand-up comedienne is known for her many appearances in television shows where she is able to display her satirical comedy with topics such as religion, racism and sexism. Apart from talk shows and SNL, Sarah Silverman also appeared in "The Larry Sanders Show" during the late 1990s, "Seinfeld" (1997), as well as voice talent in animated television shows "American Dad!" (2005) and "The Simpsons (2010 and 2012).
She is widely known for her show "The Sarah Silverman Program" which aired in Comedy Central from 2007 to 2010. A third season of 10 episodes was aired in Logo after the previous home network has disagreements in per-episode budget. However, prior to Sarah Silverman's self-titled program, she was a member of the SNL team during the early 1990s.
Sarah Silverman was part of SNL as a writer for the 1993-19994 season, but was soon booted out as none of her sketches reached airing. On her firing, SNL writer explained with The New Yorker, "I could see how it wouldn't work at SNL because she's got her own voice, she's very much Sarah Silverman all the time. She can play a character but she doesn't disappear into the character-she makes the character her."
Although Sarah Silverman's connection with SNL was brief and it did damage her confidence a bit, she knew this move paved the way for her to discover different things, and opened new opportunities that helped her career blossom.
The recent passing away of seasoned actress and host Joan Rivers, who incidentally was a good friend of Sarah Silverman, paved the way for Sarah Silverman to return to SNL almost a decade after since she left.
In the Sarah Silverman SNL sketch, she played Joan Rivers in a talk show-type set apparently in heaven, together with other celebrities who have passed away. This tribute was well received among viewers, and welcomed the return albeit brief, of Sarah Silverman to SNL.
