McDonald's Japan released the orange and black Squid Ink Burger in time for Halloween.
The largest burger chain introduced their own version of black sesame bun and squid ink burgers. It's server with cheddar cheese, crispy fried onions, orange chipotle sauce, and two beef patties. To achieve the black color, the buns are steamed with bamboo charcoal, like what they did with Burger King's black bun and cheese burgers. The Ikasumi (Squid Ink) Burger comes for $3.40 dollars.
Besides the black sesame bun burger, McDonald's also include two more items to their Halloween menu. The second is the Camembert Chicken Filet Sandwich that's served with the creamy white Camembert cheese sauce, lettuce, crispy chicken filet and the usual white buns. Pumpkin Oreo McFlurry is the third item on the holiday menu. They mix pumpkin in the usual oreo cookies and vanilla ice cream of Oreo McFlurry.
The McDonald's release of Halloween menu follows Burger King Japan's own Kuro (black in Japanese) burger which was released in September. The Kuro burger has two versions-pearl and diamond versions.
RocketNews24 reports that compared to Burger King's black burger, the buns of the McDonald's burgers are shades lighter. In closer inspection, the buns are actually deep brown, rather than black. They also forgo the black cheese that the Kuro burgers offer.
McDonald's Halloween menu will be available till the last week of October. The Chicken Filet Sandwich comes at $3.37 and the Pumpkin Oreo McFlurry at $2.53. Only the McDonald's stores in Tokyo's Shinjuku district-Seibu Shinjuku station, Minamiguchi, and Shinjuku Oguard Nation-offer the Halloween treat.
