Xbox One vs PS4: Sony squeezes Xbox Once Again In The Market! PlayStation 4 Still The Top-Selling Console For The Sixth Month In A Row!

| By

It seems like Sony had another enormous success last month despite Microsoft's sudden decrease on the price of Xbox One. According to VGChartz, Sony sold 178,000 PlayStation 4s globally during the week of September 14th while Microsoft only moved 94,000 Xbox One consoles in that time.

It started when Microsoft launched in Japan, where the sales did not picked up. This year was no different - Microsoft sold over 1 million consoles when the Xbox One launched in the U.S., but only 23,562 Japanese customers picked one up during the first week of sales. By the third week, only 1,314 Xbox One consoles were sold in Japan.

Microsoft does not want to give up on Japan, but it's clear that the Xbox brand still hasn't been a trend on in the East. On the other hand, Microsoft has traditionally had success in Europe, but in order to level with Sony, the company dropped the price of the Xbox One to £329.99 in the UK (while the price of the PS4 held steady at £349.99) ahead of the launch of FIFA 15.

Yesterday, Microsoft announced that Xbox One sales had more than 50% in June, compared with their sales on May. Though, there are no specific figures were stated, that it became difficult to tell just how many systems the price drop helped to sell.

Even as the price drops and availability continues to spread worldwide, Microsoft still hasn't found a way to catch up with Sony.

According to the most recent official announcements for worldwide sales figures, the PS4 has sold 7 million units as of April 6; the Xbox One has sold 3 million units as of December 31, with another 5 million shipped to retailers.

The PlayStation 4 was the top-selling console for the sixth month in a row, according to Sony.

Courtesy of a statement from Sony's Guy Longworth that the PS4 came out on top in the U.S. during June. Sony also gave information regarding the success of the PS4, including the fact that this marks the sixth month in a row that the PS4 was the top seller in the U.S. Plus, PS4 was the top platform for physical software sales among the new generation of platforms.

"The demand for Sony is still greater than what we are seeing for Xbox One right now," said by Johnathan Marsh, Head of Buying for Electrics and Home Technology at John Lewis.
