Joe Giudice and Teresa Giudice both pleaded guilty to several counts of fraud. The ‘Real Housewives of New Jersey stars were present when they were sentenced last October 2 in a federal court.
According to reports from NorthJersey.com Joe was sentenced to a 41-month term with a restitution payment of $414,588 while Teresa will be behind bars for 15 months. It was also stated on the website that Teresa will serve her sentence before Joe serves his to allow at least one parent to tend to their four kids at any given time. Presiding Judge Esther Salas letting both spend the holidays with their kids, so Teresa will report for her term on January 5.
Before the sentence was given, Teresa Giudice tried to plead to the judge saying how she is a woman of faith and is extremely sorry for her actions.
“Thank you for letting me address the court today. I wrote this last night because I get nervous when I speak," she began. "I speak as a wife, a mother, and a daughter. Today I am blessed but I am also humbled. I hear you and what you are saying, and it is time for me to wake up."
She also went on to speak about her four daughters — Gia, 13, Gabriella, 9, Milania, 8, and Audriana, 5. "My daughters are my life. I don't care about the TV show, or materialistic things. My daughters are all that I care about, and I feel so bad that my 13-year-old has any idea what is going on with all of this. I am more sorry than anyone will know. The silver lining is that I can learn and show my daughters. I know everything happens for a reason, and I hope I can find that reason."
Even after a very tearful plea, the judge was not swayed and still gave her more than a year of jail time.
In an article form Fox News, Salas said that “For a moment, I thought about probation," Salas reportedly said in court. "For a moment." she continued, "I need to send a message that it isn’t who you are, how famous you are. If you do something wrong, there will be consequences to pay," Judge Salas said
