After keeping it a secret for two months, Ellen Pompeo's baby news has finally come out!
On Thursday, Ellen Pompeo's baby was revealed to the world when the "Grey's Anatomy" star posted a photo of her husband Chris Ivery with their new daughter on her Instagram account.
The black and white photo was captioned: "Sienna May Ivery welcome to the world. We love you more than words can say."
The new addition to their family arrived with the help of a surrogate. Pompeo tweeted the detail, saying: "Sienna was born via surrogate [and] I would like to thank my whole @ShondalandTV family for helping us enjoy these first few weeks privately."
In an interview with Australia's TV Week, Pompeo joked about their choice to keep the identity of their surrogate private, saying: "It's important to protect the privacy of the surrogate, but don't forget, I am the same girl who had the mayor of New York City marry me and it didn't get out for five days. I'm good at that!"
The 44-year-old actress also shared some details about the baby when she guested at "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
Pompeo shared her involvement in the conception, saying: "I was present for the insemination. I held her hand." She then explained a little bit about how the whole process went.
"They make the embryo, and then they insert the embryo into the woman who will carry the child," she shared. "This is an incredible thing to do with your life, to give the gift of carrying someone's child, so I am forever grateful and feel very blessed."
And now we have a gorgeous baby girl," she gushed.
In an earlier interview, Pompeo shared the challenges she faced when she first became a mother including how to juggle motherhood with her career. "It is challenging. You know, I have my days where I feel really guilty that I've been here every day if I have to work a lot," she said. "But the truth is I'm in a very blessed situation; I am so lucky. First of all, I am so lucky to live in a country where a girl like me can make this kind of living, achieve her dreams and reach her goals."
Ellen Pompeo's baby is her second child with her husband. In 2009, they welcomed their first child Stella Luna.
