NBC gave 'The Sing-Off' season 5 the green light!
According to Entertainment Weekly, 'The Sing-Off,' produced by Sony Pictures Television and Mark Burnett's One Three Media, will be returning for the holidays. However, no airing schedule has been reported yet.
The acapella singing survival show introduced awesome talents in groups of five or more. Previous winners include Nota, Committed, Pentatonix, and the latest winning group, Home Free.
Meanwhile, season three's winning group will be getting a big break for the big screen. Pentatonix will be singing alongside Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, and Britney Snow for 'Pitch Perfect 2,' sequel of the 2012 hit movie. Another 'Sing-Off' contestant, Filipino-American group The Filharmonic, has also been casted to the film which is set to be released on May 15 next year.
Hosted by Nick Lachey (formerly from 98 Degrees), season four had Shawn Stockman and Ben Folds as returning judges while newcomer Jewel replaced Sara Bareilles as the sole female judge.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC is currently casting for 'The Sing-Offs' season 5, which means Stockman, Folds, and Jewel are still not confirmed to return.
Season four was aired in 2013, after being on hiatus for one and half years. It proceeded to air as a seven-night broadcast.
Its finale, however, ended with a record low rating of only 5.2 million viewers. The show only got a 1.3 rating from the coveted 18-49 demographic on its finale show, which aired on December 23 last year.
NBC will also be airing a live musical production of the boy who never grew up. Peter Pan is set to air on December 4.
'Girls' actress Allison Williams will star as Peter Pan while Oscar award winner Christopher Walken will play Captain Hook. Wendy Darling will be played by Taylor Louderman and Tiger Lily will be portrayed by Alanna Saunders.
Do you think 'The Sing-Off' season 5 will attract more viewers? Do you see a season six happening in the future?
