The new season premiere of Wednesday night's Criminal Minds featured a surprising change in cast. Jennifer Love Hewitt replaced Jeanne Tripplehorn. This is the first episode of the tenth season on CBS which aired last October 1.
Hewitt's character, Kate Callahan, went right into the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) with much comfort and poise, to which everyone did not feel that she is fit for the team. Her character is an eight-year veteran of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. When we meet Kate, she is working undercover putting down pedophiles.
Hewitt says that she enjoys Kate Callahan's sarcastic, sometimes bordering inappropriate, sense of humor and enjoys the characters' relationships as well. Kate has "a really sweet connection" with Rossi, is "the Barney Fife to Hotchner's [Thomas Gibson] Andy. She gets really excited to go where he tells her to and be at his side in that way."
The 35-year-old actress said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she had "been waiting to find the perfect way to get back," to the network. According to Hewitt, she has known Criminal Minds showrunner Erica Messer since their time on Party of Five roughly 20 years ago.
