Following the second wave of female celebrities' leaked nude photos in "The Fappening," lawyers for several female celebrities are threatening to sue Google for $100 million. This is for allegedly failing to remove the images and "making millions from the victimization of women."
Top Hollywood lawyer, Marty Singer, who represents a number of the women affected by the leak, has written a sternly-worded letter to Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Bin, as well as Eric Schmidt and Google lawyers accusing them of "blatantly unethical behavior."
The letter, which has been exclusively seen by the New York Post's Page Six Column, claims that Google has failed "to act expeditiously, and responsibly to remove the images, but in knowingly accommodating, facilitating, and perpetuating the unlawful conduct." The document goes on to claim that "Google knows the images are hacked stolen property, private and confidential photos and videos unlawfully obtained and posted by pervert predators who are violating the victims' privacy rights... yet Google has little or no action to stop these outrageous violations."
Singer adds, "Google is making millions and profiting from the victimization of women...As a result of your blatantly unethical behavior, Google is exposed to significant liability and both compensatory and punitive damages that could well exceed $100 million."
According to the famous lawyer, he penned the letter to simply be a warning shot at this point, still leaving the possibility to the celebrities suing Google. Singer ended the letter demanding three things: to terminate the images from its sites, to terminate user accounts that are hosting the images and to remove accounts on Blogspot that are displaying the photos. The lawyer also asked for data preservation on all alleged offenders for possible litigation at a later time.
A group of celebrities whose nude photos were leaked online included Jennifer Lawrence, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Cara Delevingne, among dozens others. These hacked images are said to be the biggest celebrity hacking scandal in history.
