'Sherlock' star Benedict Cumberbatch's Richard III role in BBC2's Shakespeare adaptation has started!

Filming for 'The Hallow Crown: The War Of Roses' started last Monday and fans of the actor were able to see him wearing his kingly clothes on set.

The paparazzi-like photos quickly spread on Twitter with the actor sporting long curly hair and an elegant black costume as he rode a horse.

BBC2 previously announced the 'Hobbit' star as one of the actors slated to appear in the four-part series about the 'War Of Roses.' It will include Shakespeare's Henry VI (in three parts) and Richard III, which Cumberbatch will take on.

The 'Star Trek' star earlier secured Dame Judi Dench a part in the Damien Cooke-directed series through a public invitation.

"Would you like to be in Richard III with me?" Cumberbatch asked Dench during a question and answer session at the Hay Festival back in June. The Oscar Award-winning actress promptly exclaimed an enthusiastic "Yes!" amidst cheers.

Dench will be portraying Duchess of York, Cecily, in the BBC2 adaptation. 'Bond' director Sam Mendes is the executive producer for the four-part film.

With the recent fan-taken photos making its rounds on the Internet, fan's expectations for Benedict Cumberbatch's Richard III portrayal has been raised considerably.

Fans' enthusiasm for the 'Imitation Game' star hadn't fizzled even with the revelation of his rumored girlfriend, whom he has reportedly been seeing since June.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the 'Penguins Of Madagascar' star's new girlfriend, is Oxford graduate and actress Sophie Hunter. They first met on the set of 'Burlesque Fairytales' some years ago. Cumberbatch had been dating Olivia Poulet at the time.

Being a theatre director herself, do you think Hunter gave her alleged boyfriend some tips for the role?

Benedict Cumberbatch and Dame Judi Dench will be joined by Keeley Hawes, Hugh Bonneville, Sophie Okonedo, Sally Hawkins and Tom Strurridge in the 'The Hallow Crown: The War Of Roses.'

Aside from Benedict Cumberbatch's Richard III role, he will also be taking on one more Shakespeare character. Tickets for his 2015 play, 'Hamlet,' have already been sold out a year before actual production.
