Rush Hour TV Series In The Works: Successful Hong Kong-American Martial Arts Film To Be Developed By Original Director Brent Ratner

| By

A Rush Hour TV series is close to gracing your television, reports say. According to the Entertainment Weekly, the Rush Hour movie franchise is now being developed through the partnership of director Brent Ratner, the same guy who did the movie, and Cougar Town co-creator Bill Lawrence.

The Entertainment Weekly wrote:

“The Rush Hour film franchise could be getting a TV makeover. Warner Bros. Television is developing a prime-time version of the box office hits.

Like the films, Rush Hour follows a by-the-book Hong Kong police officer who is assigned to a case in Los Angeles, where he’s forced to work with a cocky African-American LAPD officer who has no interest in having a partner. Cougar Town co-creator Bill Lawrence, along with Blake McCormick, are the writers on the project.

The original 1998 film and its two sequels starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Original director Brett Ratner is on board the TV project as executive producer along with Arthur Sarkissian and Jeff Ingold.”

Rush Hour tells the story of two cops from Hong Kong (Chan) and America (Tucker) who go on into a series of misadventure while chasing corrupt crime figures.

While the EP for the Rush Hour TV series has been confirmed, there are no words yet on who will play the lead roles, when will it be released, or who will direct it.

“There’s no network deal yet, however, so Rush Hour is still in the early stages. WBTV did not confirm the project. But unlike some films that studios attempt to adapt movies into TV shows, Rush Hour has a storyline that fits squarely into what popular TV shows do well: solve weekly crimes,” the EW said.

The Rush Hour TV series has big shoes to fill as the movie version garnered a huge success. The first movie raked in $244,386,864 worldwide, second got $347,325,802 while the third installment earned $258,022,233.
