According to a report from CNN, George Clooney's wedding to British human rights attorney Amal Alamuddin was held in Venice, Italy last weekend.
Tthe groom, considered as the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood, arrived by motorboat at the Aman Canal Grande Venice resort. The venue is housed in the 16th-century Palazzo Papadopoli.
Locals cheered "George, auguri" as George Clooney waved to his guests and on-lookers.
According to CNN, Anna Wintour, Cindy Crawford, and Matt Damon were among the first to arrive in Venice for George Clooney's star-studded wedding. The high-profile guest list gathered photographers and reporters on the docks facing the Aman Canal Grande, where attendees arrived via taxi boats.
Tourists gave their well-wishes and were excited to get a glimpse of both the newlyweds and their celebrity guests. One joked about the former bachelor finally getting hitched: "My heart is broken but I'm excited," the tourist said.
A tourist from Canada referenced George Clooney's Venice wedding to a classic Dean Martin song: "I guess this is, as Dean Martin put it, 'That's Amore,' the land of love."
A local also said the couple made the right choice in choosing Venice for their wedding venue.
"Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world," the local said, reported by CNN.
The actor announced the wedding venue just weeks before the event while at a celebrity charity function in Tuscany, Italy. According to People magazine, George Clooney was at the event to accept a humanitarian award and shared during his acceptance speech: "I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying, in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places."
Venice's city authorities made arrangements to ensure the smooth flow of the celebrity event. A notice from city authorities indicated the closure of the city hall area last Monday afternoon for the couple's civil ceremony.
