Kroger has addressed ongoing rumors regarding the potential closure of its popular Louisville, Kentucky, location and apologized for recent service inconsistencies.

The store, which is typically open from 8 AM to 9 PM daily, has seen varied operating hours recently. City officials confirmed that Kroger attributed these changes to an oversight and assured them there were no plans to close the store.

Kroger's Early Closures Disrupt Local Shoppers

The Kroger on West Broadway has been shutting its doors early without warning, leaving many residents without a reliable place to get groceries. Among them is Miss Caldwell, who relies on walking to the store nearly every day because she doesn't own a car, as WDRB revealed.

She mentioned that these unexpected early closures started a few months ago.

To avoid being caught off-guard, she now does her shopping in the afternoon on days she anticipates closures.

If she finds the store closed, Caldwell waits until the next day to buy groceries. However, this routine is inconvenient for her and others in the community who depend on walking to this grocery store.

WDRB reported observing two young girls, who appeared to have walked to the store, pushing a shopping cart all the way home because they had no other way to transport their groceries.

Antwan Jones, another resident, expressed frustration as he sat on his bright blue bicycle outside Kroger. "

People have to walk to this grocery store. Not everyone can afford to order food delivery or anything like that," he said. Jones visits the store as needed but admits there have been several occasions when the store did not meet his needs due to these unannounced closures.

Jones highlighted the challenge for many, questioning the alternatives when the nearest grocery store beyond Kroger is several miles away.

In response to the community's challenges with grocery access, Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins has taken a closer look at the situation involving Kroger on West Broadway, as reported by Local 12.

The U.S. Sun highlights that Hawkins has been actively engaging with the management of the Kroger store on West Broadway, addressing community concerns about the store's operations.

According to WDRB, Hawkins was informed that the store could maintain its closing time at 9 PM, provided there was a decrease in theft incidents.

Hawkins conveyed to the local news outlet that the loss rate due to theft at this location was alarmingly high. She emphasized the need for community cooperation, urging locals and visitors to refrain from stealing.

Councilwoman Hawkins informed the media that other Kroger stores across the city typically close at 10 PM, with some locations extending their hours until 11 PM.

Hawkins highlighted available resources and mentioned that numerous community members and programs are ready to provide food access, imploring the community to respect the store.

Despite these challenges, Kroger has apologized for any service shortcomings and affirmed their commitment to keep the store open until 9 PM each night. However, they did not comment on inquiries regarding the potential permanent closure of the store.
