On Monday, Patelco Credit Union reported that a security breach last Saturday had left half a million of its customers unable to access their accounts. The bank is working to fix the issue, but it's still unclear when everything will return to normal.
Patelco Faces Serious Security Breach
According to East Bay Times, Erin Mendez, the President and CEO of Patelco Credit Union, informed customers via a systemwide email on Saturday that a significant security breach necessitated the shutdown of key services, including online banking, the mobile app, and the call center, to manage and limit the breach's impact.
Customers have expressed frustrations about being unable to access their funds or log into their accounts since the breach occurred. In an update on Monday, Patelco acknowledged on Instagram that all electronic transactions, such as transfers, payments, and balance inquiries, are still unavailable.
The credit union also mentioned that starting Monday, July 1, its branches, call center, and live chat would be operational during regular business hours to offer assistance. However, longer wait times than usual are expected. However, they are currently unable to address inquiries about individual accounts.
Patelco emphasized that updates would be provided as more information becomes available. They acknowledged the concerns raised by this situation and committed to keeping their customers informed as they continue their investigation.
Patelco Credit Union, which serves around 500,000 members, recently faced a major issue that locked all these members out of their online accounts. This incident prevented them from checking their statement balances, and sending or receiving money, or changing their passwords.
On their social media pages, Patelco informed customers that they could still withdraw and deposit cash at over 30,000 shared branch ATMs across the U.S. Despite this, many members expressed their dissatisfaction with the restricted access to their funds.

Patelco Customers Express Concern Over Vague Updates
Patelco Credit Union customers are growing increasingly frustrated following a security breach that has locked them out of their online banking accounts. Julie Brusca, a customer, expressed her dissatisfaction to the East Bay Times, noting the credit union's vague communication about the nature of the breach.
Brusca highlighted the potential consequences for those with automated payments, such as rent, saying they could face significant challenges if the issue is not resolved promptly. She voiced concerns about the security of her funds and the potential damage to Patelco's reputation if access is not restored within the week.
According to The U.S Sun, Patelco has responded by stating that their teams are diligently working with leading cybersecurity experts to address and rectify the breach. They are striving to restore services as quickly as possible but were unable to provide a specific timeframe for when normal operations might resume.
The credit union acknowledged the situation's severity and committed to keeping their customers informed as the investigation progresses. However, they did not provide detailed information on the cause or the extent of the breach.
In response to the recent security breach, Patelco Credit Union has communicated with its members through an email from the CEO, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to resolve the issue.
The company assured members that their security and peace of mind remain the top priority, even though not all questions can be answered immediately. Patelco encouraged its members to watch for further updates on the situation, which will be provided through social media channels.
