A popular retail chain has surprised its customers by announcing the closing of one of its stores after many years.

Customers were shocked to learn that the Goodwill store in Commerce, Texas, will be closing permanently.

Goodwill Closes Commerce Store Suddenly

Goodwill announced on June 14 that it was permanently shutting down its Commerce, Texas, location after many years of operation, as The U.S. Sun reported.

The store expressed its appreciation to the Commerce community on its Facebook page, thanking them for their support throughout the years.

Goodwill urged its loyal customers to visit other locations or shop online. The Facebook post conveyed the company's gratitude for the community's contributions and patronage, inviting them to continue shopping at their Greenville and Sulpher Springs, Texas locations.

The post also included a heartfelt thank you to the community for their loyalty and support over the years, emphasizing the significance of their role in the Goodwill family.

Goodwill operates as a thrift chain, allowing people to donate gently used items, which are then sold in stores. With over 3,000 locations nationwide, many customers have been able to find unique vintage items at a fraction of their original cost.

Despite the recent renovation, the announcement revealed that the store's last day of business would be June 15, giving customers a mere two-day notice.

Several customers have taken to Facebook to express their dismay over the sudden closure of the Goodwill store in Commerce, Texas. One person lamented the closure, pointing out that the store had just been remodeled.

Another shared their sadness after recently shopping there and admiring the new renovations.

A third commenter described the closure as a significant loss for the community. Additionally, another customer expressed frustration and disappointment, noting the recent remodel and stating it was a sad day for those who loved shopping at Goodwill.

Goodwill's Commerce store isn't the only one undergoing significant changes. In April, it was announced that the thrift store's Dixwell Avenue location in Hamden, Connecticut, would be moving to a larger building nearby.

This store is one of two Goodwill locations in Hamden. The new site is in a former Rite Aid building on Dixwell Avenue, just a half-mile from the original location, shared Marcus Notz, Goodwill's chief information officer of marketing and public relations.

According to the New Haven Register, Notz expressed hopes for a smooth transition without a lengthy closure. The move was planned to occur overnight, allowing the store to operate continuously without interruption.

During the transition, customers could still donate their clothes at the old location until the new store opened.

Skiff Street for about 20 years, according to Marcus Notz. The location, roughly 7,000 square feet, was considered less than ideal due to its small area and limited parking options.

Despite these challenges, finding a better spot in the desirable commercial area of Dixwell proved difficult for years because of the low availability of suitable properties.

Notz explained that the new store will significantly improve on these aspects, boasting 10,720 square feet of space. It will also feature a donation drive-thru and expanded parking facilities, making it a more convenient option for shoppers and donors.
