The debate on who’s better between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will probably go on forever. The two football superstars, playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain’s La Liga, respectively, have been pitted by fans on the argument of who is the world’s best footballer. Now, the Lionel Messi Cristiano Ronaldo comparison has gone to another level as a couple of La Liga coaches compared the two super scorers to athletes from another sport, a complete different sport that is.
While Elche coach Fran Escriba thinks Cristiano Ronaldo is the Michael Jordan of football, Barca coach Luis Enrique thinks Lionel Messi is Wilt Chamberlain. What is Enrique trying to point out? Most basketball fans think that Jordan is the greatest player of all time while Chamberlain is one of the best scorers.
"If Cristiano Ronaldo is like Michael Jordan, then Messi is like Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 100 points in one game," the Barca coach said at a press conference according to Goal.com.
Enrique is describing the Argentinean star’s recent achievement when he scored his 400th and 401st goal versus Granada last wee.
"I considered taking Messi off to rest him, but watching him in action is such a big joy that I preferred to have him on the pitch for 90 minutes.
"He is very generous with his assists and it really is a joy to watch him. He has been touched by the magic wand.
"Messi scoring 400 goals? Most of us didn't even score that many goals if we counted all those at school, on the streets, wherever...”
Although the coaches have already spoken, don’t think that this Lionel Messi Cristiano Ronaldo comparison is close to done. The two guys continue to wreak havoc on their defenders as they climb their way to different football records. The new La Liga season is too early and UEFA Champions League is still on group stage.
Let everyone pitch in on the Lionel Messi Cristiano Ronaldo debate. For we all know, both these players are awesome and it would be a joy to see them playing at their best.
