If there’s someone that’s making the biggest mark in the young season of Gotham it is Robin Lord Taylor’s Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. Penguin. Taylor’s brilliance in portraying the infamous Batman nemesis makes it compelling to watch the new Fox series. The show is just in its second episode but it is already giving more than enough reason to standby and wait for more Gotham series spoilers. Taylor has one for you.
In an interview with TV Line, the American actor, known for his roles in the movie Accepted and TV series The Walking Dead, provided enough reasons why Cobblepot is arguably the most interesting Batman villain. “He’s thinking that he’s never going to be powerless again, and that he won’t let anyone stand in his way,” Taylor said.
“He’s immediately learning how to play people off of other people,” he added. “His fearlessness in terms of achieving what he wants — which is to run Gotham City — and the lengths to which he goes will surprise people.”
At the end of the first episode (watch out, this is a Gotham Series spoiler), Taylor escaped getting killed after Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) allowed him to leave. Gordon was asked by Harvey Bullock to kill Cobblepot to make the organization think that they are on the same page. However, the police officer decided to spare Cobblepot his life by just pushing him into the water while pretending that he shot him. This, however, means nothing for the Penguin.
“Penguin is completely indebted to him. However at the same time, they’re rivals,” the actor notes. “Their ultimate goals, good and evil, are disparate, but at the same time they need each other. Gotham Gertrud KapelputIt’s an incredible dynamic that you rarely get to play with someone, and Ben [McKenzie] is such a fantastic actor to share this experience with.”
