A company spokesperson confirmed that Trader Joe's, headquartered in California, is set to open eight new grocery stores in Southern California.

The new stores will be in Sherman Oaks, South Pasadena, Northridge, Santa Clarita, Ladera Ranch, Murrieta, Santee, and Poway.

New Trader Joe's Stores Awaited Eagerly

Nakia Rohde, Trader Joe's public relations manager, emailed on Friday, May 31, to indicate that the company has not yet established a timeline for the opening of its new stores.

On Daily Breeze, she noted that the company's website would be updated as soon as opening dates are determined.

Rohde explained that Trader Joe's has been continuously expanding since it was founded in 1967, with some years seeing more growth than others by opening new stores.

In Orange County, a new Trader Joe's stores will take over a former Staples office supply location in Ladera Ranch. Residents, expressing their excitement on Facebook, are especially pleased with the store filling a vacancy in the Mercantile East shopping center, which recently lost both a Staples and a Dick's Sporting Goods.

Beth Probeus, a local resident, commented on Facebook that the shopping center, with its numerous vacancies, greatly needs Trader Joe's's vibrant presence.

Further expansions include a new store in Murrieta in the Inland Empire, located in a former OfficeMax. Los Angeles County will see the addition of four new stores across four different cities, including one in South Pasadena, near where the chain was originally founded, which will replace a closed Vons.

Additionally, two new stores are set to open in San Diego County.

According to Bloomberg, founded in Pasadena in 1967, the beloved grocery chain Trader Joe's was acquired in 1979 by Theo Albrecht, the German founder of the Aldi supermarket chain.

CBS noted Trader Joe's has built its reputation on direct purchasing from suppliers whenever possible, which helps keep its prices low.

Since 2020, shoppers have faced stubbornly high grocery prices. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, inflation has driven up the cost of "food at home" by nearly 23% over four years.

These price hikes have been partly attributed to the avian flu, which has affected the egg and poultry industries, and the war in Ukraine, which has increased grain prices.

Although some grocery prices have started to drop, many remain high, such as egg prices, which continue to be volatile. This has led shoppers to seek out deals more aggressively.

Trader Joe's celebrates its most popular products each year with the "Customer's Choice Awards." Past winners have included Mandarin orange chicken, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, spicy chips, and cheddar cheese dip.

In 1979, Coulombe sold Trader Joe's to the Albrecht family, owners of the Aldi Nord supermarket company. Despite the sale, Trader Joe's operates independently of the Aldi discount grocery chain.
