The Detroit Tigers claimed their fourth straight American League Central division title, while Derek Jeter ended his career with an RBI single for the New York Yankees, MLB scores and standings update indicated.
The Tigers clinched the AL Central title with a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, leaning on the impressive performance from David Price.
Price, who was acquired by the Tigers in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays before the trade deadline, did not allow a point in almost eight innings he spent on the mound, ending the match with eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings.
Price's eight strikeouts was enough for him to become the 2014 MLB strikeout king after finishing with 271 strikeouts during the regular season - two Ks ahead of Corey Kluber for the title, an MLB scores and standings update on Detroit News indicated.
Meanwhile, Derek Jeter capped off his illustrious career with an RBI infield single to highlight NY Yankees' 9-5 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday.
Jeter finished his career with 3,465 hits, which is the sixth-most hits in MLB history, while also tallying a .310 career batting average during his 20-year career with the Yankees.
"I had a blast," Jeter said via ESPN New York. "Listen, I had an opportunity to do what I wanted to do, the only thing that I ever wanted to do. I know that not a lot of people can say that. I've been fortunate. I've had fun. There is not a thing I would change."
Jeter said, though, that nothing would beat the feeling on Thursday when he hit the game-winner during the ninth inning of their game against the Baltimore Orioles, which was his final at-bat at the Yankee Stadium.
"You can't top off what happened on Thursday," Jeter said in an MLB scores and standings update. ""I don't care if I came to Boston and hit a home run in every single at-bat. If I hit four home runs, while I was here. For me, personally, it couldn't top what happened. New York has been a special place for me."
