UPDATE: via screenrant.com:

"According to the source, Terminator: Genesis will swing back and forth between 1984 (setting of The Terminator), 1991 (Terminator 2: Judgement Day), and 'other important and influential time periods in the life of the Connor family.' Events of the new film will start with the first film. 'The 'Terminator' from the future will arrive on earth, attack some punks (keen to see who they get to play 'Bill Paxton'), and then slaughter his way through a bunch of Sarah Connors' - until he finds the correct target.'"

As previously reported, It seems that the initial casting for the upcoming Terminator movie is finally over. Known as Terminator: Genesis, key characters have been said to be casted already.

Key characters Sarah Connor, John Connor, and Kyle Reese have been casted with promising results, as reported.

There have been rumors that the screenplay, which is written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier of Shutter Island and Drive Nagry respectively, will be tapping into the highlights of the two previous movies, Terminator 1 and T2: Judgement Day, and will develop a bigger storyline about time-travelling.

According to Screenrant, "The longstanding claim is that Genesis will feature Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a Terminator robot, who must protect the young Sarah Connor (Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke) from Skynet forces that attempt to kill her. Sarah, of course, is traditionally the mother of future human resistance leader John Connor (Jason Clarke), as was fathered by Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) - the human soldier who John sent back in time to save his mother."

"THR is reporting that The Closer TV series alum J.K. Simmons - also known for playing J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and his voice-work as Jameson in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series (as well as for voicing Tenzin on The Legend of Korra) - is in negotiations to join the Terminator: Genesiscast. Furthermore, the report adds that he will play an 'alcoholic detective,' who has spent three decades following the strange case of Sarah Connor."

"Reading deeper into that, it could be that the Terminator: Genesis script references events in Cameron's original Terminator installment (which now happens to be 30 years old, by no coincidence). That would be an intriguing approach, similar to how this year's Godzilla franchise reboot integrates events from the original 1954 film - as both a plot point and a meta-nod to the history of the property."

Aside from J.K Simmons' involvement, rumors that "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson is set to also star in the film. As to what his role will be, readers have yet to know. But the possibilities are definitely endless.
