Rafael Nadal News: Spanish Tennis Superstar Ready To Return To Action In China Open 2014

| By

Rafael Nadal news indicated that the Spanish superstar is confident that he will perform well in his upcoming stint at the 2014 China Open, which will be his first tournament coming off a wrist injury.

Nadal, who has not played in a competitive match since losing to Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round of the 2014 Wimbledon, said in an interview on Saturday that he is feeling better and is ready to compete again following a long layoff.

"I am much better," he said in a Rafael Nadal news on the official ATP World Tour website. "The thing is the injury, the evolution of the injury, was a bit slow and took a little bit of time. But that's it. I just feel the wrist a little bit when I am starting, when I start to play every day, but then it disappears. I'm in good conditions to compete again."

Nadal sustained a wrist injury in training that forced him to miss his title defense at the 2014 U.S. Open along with the Masters 1000 event in Toronto and Cincinnati. The Spanish tennis superstar also missed Spain's Davis Cup World Group campaign before making his comeback in an exhibition match on Thursday.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion scored a 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4 win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Astana, Kazakhstan. While he played well against Tsonga on Thursday, Nadal insisted that fans should manage their expectations in his upcoming participation at the China Open, where he finished runner-up last season, losing to Novak Djokovic in the final.

"This part of the season has always been a little bit difficult for me, and will be for sure even more this year after stopping for three months at the middle of the season. That was really bad news for me," the Spaniard said in the Rafael Nadal news. "But the last part of the season remains. I am going to try to be ready for it. I don't know in which condition I am going to be in, in terms of tennis, in these two tournaments."
