A preview of the upcoming game "Civilization Beyond Earth" has been reviewed by the Verge. For the uninitiated, Civilization is a game series that utilizes the turn based systems and strategy to help your civilization gain supremacy over your other rivals. To succeed in this strategy game, player must successfully maintain his people's economic well being and military superiority. Failure to do so will lead to defeat.
"Civilization Beyond Earth" is Sid Meier's latest installment of this very successful game franchise. This upcoming game is a departure from the other Civilization installments. Instead of expanding your empire on Earth, you will now expand it to other alien worlds.
In "Civilization Beyond Earth," you control one of the eight factions that have arrive and settled in an alien planet. Almost immediately, after landing, the various factions have started bickering among themselves. Each faction vies to solely control the vast resources of the newly colonized planet.
As head of one of the faction you must see to it that your group gets ahead of the competition. Once your colony ship lands in the planet, it will transform into a city, ready to colonize and tame the alien environment.
Unwelcome neighbors will land near your city. This is where you will need to use the game's diplomacy option to talk to the other faction. They will generally be hostile but since all of you are still starting out, the hostility will only be limited to threats and insults.
Now that you have an enemy that is preparing to invade your lands, you must quickly grow enough food supply for your growing colony; expand your economy in order to fund your military.
However, the planets native inhabitants can also hinder your progress. Giant worms similar to those featured in Dune will attack your colony.
"Civilization Beyond Earth" will not disappoint gamers who are fans of this genre. The game will be launched on October 24 this year.
