In the last episode of the The Strain TV series, the group of Dr. Eph Goodweather (played by Corey Stoll) finally came close to the leader of the vampires that are slowly taking over New York. The episode, titled 'The Third Rail' received great reviews, especially the scene where Kevin Durand's Vassily Fet crawled through a tiny hole to escape from the monsters chasing him. Fet has been one of the most liked characters in this FX series. The 'rat killer' has everyone smitten with his gung-ho attitude and no non-sense approach in battling the vampires. For Durand, he too is enjoying his character for it allows him to do what he really wants.
Durand, known for his roles as Joshua in Dark Angel and Lenny Jackson in Edwin Boyd: Citizen Gangster, said in an interview on the set of the show that what he likes about playing Fet in the The Strain TV series is that he can get 'physical with characters.'
“With this guy, there’s this wonderful insane Viking warrior inside him and he’s kept it repressed all these years because he would have ended up in jail. Now he’s in a world where those primal instincts that were born into him are thriving. “
The 40-year old Canadian actor also talked about his group's journey to find the master and stop the epidemic that has already taken the lives of the ones they love. However, in his words, it seems that they still have a long way to go.
“They’ve got a hell of a mountain to climb,” Durand said.
Durand hasn't really played a role that is on the good side and when producer Carlton Cuse and series creator Guillermo del Toro offered him the job, he accepted it right away.
“I really wanted to be a part of it — it’s such great escapism,” Durand said. “For me, character-wise, he’s so textured and rich, I saw a lot of opportunities to have a lot of fun with this guy. Ultimately he’s a good guy –a lot of people haven’t cast me as a good guy in a while so it’s nice to get to play someone heroic.
“It’s kind of an interesting thing that an exterminator really finds what he was born to do in this apocalyptic kind of setting,” Durand continued. “He kind of disappeared in the crowd when everything was going fine in society and then all of a sudden, his skill set, the value of it shoots through the roof all of a sudden. And he loves it. He feels more alive in this world than he did when things were OK.”
Hopefully, Durant won't be infected yet so people will see more of his extraordinary fighting skills in The Strain TV Series.
