The last two Chloe Moretz movies are winning in the box office. Both 'If I Stay', released last month, and 'The Equalizer', which stars Denzel Washinton are doing good in the box office, something that signifies the brightness of the star of the former child actress. It's not just in films where Moretz is excelling, even in the fight to promote gender equality.
In an interview with MTV, the 17-year old actress, known for her role as Hit Girl in the Kick-Ass movies, insisted that she is a feminist. She also praised her fellow young actor, Emma Watson, for the way she stood to champion feminism during her speech in United Nations event in New York.
"It's so nice to hear a young, educated, smart woman (like Watson)... She was so brave to go up at the U.N. and give that speech... I really respect her for what she did."
A lot of celebrities have stood up for gender equality. This is after a string of incidents portraying the struggle of women hit news stands and rocked the world. There's Emma Watson who received praises for her speech in a United Nations event in New York. There are also Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hiddleston who backed the Harry Potter star in the #HeforShe campaign.
"I did a lot of research on it (feminism) and I wanted to be educated on it... It's a huge problem in our business. We don't make hardly any of our decisions but when a guy walks into the room everyone just listens to what he says," Moretz added.
"You look on the scale of money and we make a third of what the male lead in our movies make, even if we're lead one and they're lead three."
The American actress also explained that in most Chloe Moretz movies, you will also notice that her roles are not the kinds that you usually see for a teenager liker her. She said that she turns down roles wherein she has to show boobs or has to show sexiness because it is her way of supporting feminism.
"As a feminist you kind of look at a lot of these roles in movies," Moretz, who co-stars opposite Denzel Washington in "The Equalizer," said during an AOL Build chat.
"A lot of young female characters that I turn down are a typical female plot device or a sexualized, boobs out, ass up [figure], and that's all they need."
The fight for gender equality may have a long way to go but with actresses like Moretz using their craft to promote such campaign, then we are off to greater things. If you are an artists and wants to do something more meaningful, watch Chloe Moretz movies and you'll know what to do.
