Newsweek Europe asked YouGov to conduct a survey asking if the majority of the British public would want to trade places with Kate Middleton. The survey comes after the announcement that Kate is pregnant, and once again, Kate and William became the most loved royals of their generation.
The results of the survey were quite shocking. Believe it or not, only 1 percent of the total women who participated in the survey wanted to live Kate Middleton's life and a whopping 89 percent of the respondent said that they will not trade places with Kate - not even for a day.
There's one advantage that the results are telling us. Newsweek writes, "On the one hand, therefore, we have the portrait of a woman to whom the British public no longer attach themselves emotionally; they are no longer psychologically invested in her life; they do not project their own identities onto her; she is not a repository for the nation's sense of itself, nor of its dramas. On the other hand, there is strong evidence that people believe her to be intelligent, strong, responsible and privately influential. This paradoxical perception is perhaps best captured by the fact that 46% of women think she has influence in what she says in public and 41% don't."
Maybe the public sees Kate's life as very restrictive. In this day and age where women can do pretty much what they want, a life full of do's and don'ts is not that attractive. According to journalist German Greer, Kate is not even allowed to decorate her own houses or have a personal interest in modern culture or art. She's not allowed to do something spontaneous or say something just because she feels like it. Understandably, she does represent the royal family. Everything that she say or do needs a stamp of approval. I guess the public just wanted to see the real Kate - her opinions, her passion, and what really defines her as a person.
