Bent iPhone 6? According To Apple, The Issue Is Not As Widespread

| By

Apple’s new iPhone 6 might just have a weakness because of its new design – it can actually bend! If you are not careful with handling and just stuff your phone inside your skinny jeans and sit for a long period of time, your phone can bend because of the pressure. Phones with frames are made of metal are most susceptible and the bend is actually noticeable because the metal permanently deforms - rather than rebounding or snapping the way plastic does.

With the previous iPhone models – iPhone 4, 5 and 5s, some customers have also complained via official internet forums. But with the new iPhone, since it’s larger and thinner, it is more likely that the phone will suffer the same fate. Apple has already commented on the ongoing complaints about the new iPhone 6 Plus bending in pockets. The new iPhones include steel and titanium inserts to reinforce stress locations. Apple said that they use the "strongest glass in the industry." Per Apple, only nine customers had complained about their bent iPhones.

According to Apple, “Our iPhones are designed, engineered and manufactured to be both beautiful and sturdy. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature a precision engineered unibody enclosure constructed from machining a custom grade of 6000 series anodized aluminum, which is tempered for extra strength. They also feature stainless steel and titanium inserts to reinforce high stress locations and use the strongest glass in the smartphone industry. We chose these high-quality materials and construction very carefully for their strength and durability. We also perform rigorous tests throughout the entire development cycle including 3-point bending, pressure point cycling, sit, torsion, and user studies. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus meet or exceed all of our high quality standards to endure everyday, real life use.”

So far, Apple is suggesting that the issue is not as widespread as most people may think.

These reports of bent phones went viral as somone posted a YouTube video on the iPhone 6 Plus that has bent in the person’s hand.
