‘World of Warcraft’ Creator Blizzard Project ‘Titan’ Officially Cancelled After 7 Years In Development, Video Game Developer Declares It Will Take A Break From MMO Projects For Now

| By

Heartbreaking news of cancellation for gamers anticipating the release of the Blizzard project 'Titan' as it was previously set for 2016 release came in just yesterday. Developers explain the issues they've encountered, and why they gave up on the project.

"Warcraft" is among the first MMORPG games that took the world of gaming to a whole newly elevated level. The first release, "Warcraft: Orcs & Humans" in 1994 is considered a real-time strategy game that has led to many installments, and birthed multiple games from other publishers.

Beginning 1994, a total of 13 "Warcraft" sequels have been published and unleashed unto the gaming community to date.

In 2013, buzz on a massive Blizzard project 'Titan' surfaced online. No official statement on the production was issued until Zam.com was able to get hold of Blizzard. In the interview, Blizzard shared, "We've always had a highly iterative development process, and the unannounced MMO is no exception. We've come to a point where we need to make some large design and technology changes to the game. We're using this opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects while the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes. Note that we haven't announced any dates for the MMO."

Gamers rejoiced with the thought of a bigger better MMORPG game from the creators of "Warcraft". During this time, a release date was set to 2016.

Recently, developments on the Blizzard project 'Titan' cancellation surfaced. CEO Mike Morhaime talks to Polygon saying, "We didn't find the fun. We didn't find the passion. We talked about how we put it through a reevaluation period, and actually, what we reevaluated is whether that's the game we really wanted to be making. The answer is no."

After the Blizzard project 'Titan' cancellation announcement, Morhaime also states, "I wouldn't say no to ever doing an MMO again. But I can say that right now, that's not where we want to be spending our time."
