Adam Lambert was n 'Idol' hopeful some six years ago, and then he came back as a special mentor last year. Now, the Grammy nominated singer visited the 'American Idol' season 14 set as a substitute judge. Will he have his own judge's chair next season?
The 'Trespassing' singer joined Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr as a guest judge on the New York leg of the show's audition tour, Music Times reported.
The regular judge, Keith Urban, wasn't available for the New York auditions this week at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
The country singer was needed somewhere else. His wife, Nicole Kidman, needed his support in Australia after her father passed away last week.
According to People, Dr. Antony Kidman passed away on September 12 during a visit to his daughter Antonia and her family in Singapore when he fell accidentally, eventually leading to his unexpected death. He was a clinical psychologist at the Royal North Shore Hospital as well as a director of health psychology at the University of Technology in Sydney.
Since the New York call back audition for 'American Idol' season 14 was already scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, Fox opted to invite Lambert to sit in for the country star.
"Adam Lambert will be serving as guest judge at the NY auditions. Our thoughts are with Keith and his family during this difficult time," 'Idol' confirmed via Twitter on September 15.
According to Music Times, the 'For Your Entertainment' singer was actually considered as a judge last year. For some unknown reason, he ended up mentoring the contestants alongside Chris Daughtry instead.
Based on the photo J-Lo uploaded on Instagram, the current Queen vocalist looks like he could have blended well as a judge. Wearing a bright blue suit, he stood beside J-Lo and Connick, Jr for a playful selfie.
He may have lost the title as America's most favorite singer to Kris Allen in season eight, but Adam Lambert is still enjoying star status nowadays. He has been impressing fans from all generations by giving his own twist to Freddie Mercury songs. He's been traipsing around the US, Australia and New Zealand with legendary rock group, Queen as lead vocalist.
Fans will get to see Lambert's judging skills on 'American Idol' season 14 on Fox, next year.
