"To play in the NFL was the ultimate goal," was the ultimate dream of James Robert Douglas "Rob" Bironas' dream. He said this in 2006. Now he is dead.
Rob Bironas of the famed NFL league, Tennessee Titans, died of car accident Saturday night, September 20, after his speeding GMC Yukon Denali lost control in the curve and crashed against a line of trees near his home. The speeding angle was found out by the Metro Nashville police and declared it the department's website.
Bironas earned the title as the fourth most-accurate kicker in the NFL history with a record connecting 85.7 percent of his kicks (239 of 279). He also ranked third for kickers with 100 or more field goals, with 75.2 percent of his kicks from 40 yards or longer (94 of 125) during the AFL-NFL merger.
Bironas' early career in national football started with Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Pittsburgh Steelers. His colorful career and million-dollar earnings, started in 2005 when he signed up as unrestricted free agent with Tennessee Titans. He was released from the group in March this year after nine seasons. Before his death, he was practicing with the Detroit Lions. He was also with the Tampa Bay during off season.
Deeply saddened by the tragic news, the Titans said of Bironas, "Rob made a significant impact as a player in his nine years with the team and more importantly touched many lives in the Nashville community off the field."
The ESPN quoted Brent Kern, who was Bironas' handler since 2009 who said, "All I'm going to really say right now is my thoughts and prayers are out to Rachel and London, his son, and the Bironas family... You never want to get that call in the morning that that happened. I'm just praying for them through this time."
Bironas left wife Rachel Bradshaw, daughter of Terry Bradshaw of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, and son London.
