Cadillac Will Launch a More Affordable Luxury Car in 2015

| By

Cadillac, U.S.-based General Motors (GM) Company and maker of luxury vehicles will launch new high-end car models in the first half of 2015.

The company was awarded as "Motor Trend Car of the Year" by Motor Trend Magazine.

The title has bolstered Cadillac up the rankings of luxury car makers, creating a good headstart for the company to launch two new cars next year

"We have two cars- the CTS and XTS- that kind of transact in what you would call the mid-range of luxury. We need to shore up our credentials and make sure we compete at the top levels in terms of aspiration," David Caldwell, Cadillac spokesman said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Cadillac has joined the bandwagon of its foreign competitors of producing smaller, cheaper models of luxury cars to capture a younger market.

Leading car manufacturers Audi produced the A3 sedan while Mercedes-benz made the Mercedes CLA. Both cars can be bought for less than $30,000.

The Cadillac CTS and Cadillac XTS will be banking on Chinese executives who love to have luxury cars, according to Bloomberg.

The new Cadillac will be head-to-head with the Audi A8 priced around $78,000 in the U.S., as well as the Mercedes S-Class with a price tag of $94,440.

"The objective for this upcoming model is to lift the Cadillac range by entering the elite class of top-level luxury cars," as quoted by Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen in an interview on NBC.

Cadillac has been heading towards making mid-range luxury cars ever since it debuted the entry-level ATS Sedan back in 2012 and bigger and more expensive CTS in 2013.

The new Cadillac flagship model will be a foot longer than the Bentley Continental, and made using authentic Brazilian rosewood. It will also feature a front seat that slides forward 10 inches when the door is opened.

GM is already oiling its Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant to manufacture the new high-end cars.
