Real life ‘mean girls’ do exist and they are sometimes disguised as highschool students.
Lillian Skinner, 17, was known to be a cheerful, energetic and kind girl which was probably why she was the target by a group of girls who bullied her prior to the school’s homecoming event at Grand Prairie High School in North Texas.
According to NBC Dallas-Fort, the girls reportedly played a prank on Skinner by telling her that she had been nominated for the homecoming court, though she hadn't been. After learning the plot of the said girls, Skinner’s two bestfriends Anahi Alvarez and Naomi Martinez, who were both nominated for homecoming Queen, hatched a plan to pass the crown to Lilly if ever one of them won.
"We promised each other and we were like, 'No matter what, no backing down. If one of us wins, we're giving Lillian the crown,'" Martinez said.
Fortunately, Alvarez was crowned winner and did what she promised which surprised Lilly who was sitting among the crowd taking pictures for the school paper. Alvarez placed the crown on Skinner. "I was like, 'Wow, really? Like, wow! Like, is this a dream or something?'" Skinner said.
According to Yahoo, the two friends have already spoken to their Principal, Lorimer Arendse, and shared with her their plan.
"In all my time in school, this is probably the greatest moment I've ever experienced as a principal," said Arendse, who has five years of prior experience in school administration.
The small gesture of kindness has gone viral over the internet and both girls have been gaining praise for what they have done for a friend. "Well, for me, I want to say, and I always say, 'Lilly won. I just ran in her place, in her position,'" Alvarez said. "When they ask me, 'Were you homecoming queen?' I say, 'No, Lilly is homecoming Queen.'"
