The chief executive of News Corp has thrown out some strong accusations against Google. In a letter written to the Joaquin Almunia who is the competition commissioner of Europe, Robert Thomson says that the tech giant has strayed far from the ideals that have been set by the founders of the company and that the original vision of the company has been replaced by a cynical management.
Thomson goes further and accuses Google of being a platform for online piracy and also of spreading malicious software on the internet. Thomson warns of the increasing power and reach of Google with each passing day and that it is manipulating its own search results so that its rivals would show up poorly. Thomson says Google is trying to promote its services while it is trying to pull down its competitors.
Thomson's accusations against Google didn't stop there. He also says that Google intentionally delaying the approval of its competitor's Android apps while they can come up with similar apps of their own. These are serious accusations that indicate Google is not respecting intellectual property rights at all.
Google has been under investigation by the European Commission since 2010 for the possibility that it might be engaged in anti-competitive practices. Earlier this month, Google has denied the accusations that they have been controlling search results through a letter from its executive Eric Schmidt. The letter was published on the Financial Times. Schmidt that their search results are supposed to answer the search queries of the users. He said that Google was built for the users and not for the websites.
These are strong accusations made by Thomson against one of the biggest tech companies in the world. If it is proven that any of the accusations are true then that means Google is using its influence to gain advantage over its competitors.
