Reportedly joining Fassbender in the Assassin's Creed film is non-other than Robert Downey Jr. IGN reports that the rumor originated from an article in Movie Pilot, but since has been removed. Ubisoft have decided to form its own film company, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, planning three of their popular releases to be made into films: Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and Assassin's Creed. There was slow development at first with the script being redrafted despite already having an official release date. Ubisoft, now as found a new partner at New Regency Pictures and it seems that the movie is well on its way.

Yet, Fassbender's involvement hasn't kept the film taking its time with production and writer change ups and previous release dates getting pushed back.

He could well be one of the reasons for its delay as the actor has several films in development including his role in X-Men and Prometheus 2.

When IGN asked the actor about rumors that he's no longer involved with the Assassin's Creed movie, he had this to say:

"I love these rumors! It's fantastic. People talk about it, and they're hopefully interested. Nothing has changed, yeah. I'm still a part of Assassin's Creed, and we're working on the script as we speak. Actually, I'm going to go back and see the writers when I get back to Europe."

He also added:

"You know, we absolutely want to respect the game. There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game. But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game. But I love the world. I don't really play that many video games, but when I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world and the idea of DNA memory - you know, I think it's a very feasible scientific theory. I just thought, 'This is so rich,' and about the possibility of it being this cinematic experience. So I'm really excited about it, and we're working very hard to make sure that we've got the best and most exciting, original package."

It is also reported that the actor has been made a major producer on the movie and its potential sequels, which is quite fitting, as the actor is no stranger to genre films. First starring in Zack Snyder's 300 and Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds then probably his most famous role portraying mutant Magneto in X-Men: First Class.
