Now, that Viber has a PC version like Skype. Experts say that Viber might be a great rival of Skype.
Both phones have versions on all mobile platforms and PC version, but Skype has greater advantage because it is available for tablets, PlayStation and TVs.
Viber also announced enhancements to its desktop application for Windows, Windows 8 and OS X . Desktop v 4 .3 will have a new and improved design , a backgrounds gallery and many improvements and bug fixes. Win 8 v 3 .2 features a new and improved design , an updated snap mode with stickers , emoticons and notifications. Viber also boasted that other highlights and bug fixes include an easier way to search contacts , the ability to see online contacts from the home screen and PNG support for photo messages .
The two applications offers an easy and free registrations for users. Skype requires first time users to fill out the sign up form and activate it through email. Meanwhile, viber requires a phone number followed by a quick verification. The only downside of Viber is users can't register without a phone number.
Video call, chat and call between these apps users are free over the internet. Viber charges almost the same amount like Skype to its per minute call, when calling a mobile number and landline, and charges may also vary.
Viber's PC version is still in Beta version. So, we can expect poor quality on video calls and this beta version will need an optimization. Compared to Skype that has been dominating its market for 11 years that offers high quality video calls.
