Last week, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were launched in what was deemed as one of the most anticipated technology event of 2014. However, Android users noticed that the specs of the new Apple product are very similar to the specs of some Android phones that were released in 2012.
Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook said that he did not copy the competitor’s specs by designing the latest product with a wider screen. In an interview with Charlie Ross on PBS, Cook explains why Apple waited too long to make a phone with a big screen.
“Honestly ...we could have done a larger iPhone years ago,” Cook said. "It's never just about making a larger phone. It's about making a better phone in every single way." An example is the one-handed mode for the bigger iPhones that pops the top portion of the screen down so the user can reach it with one hand.
He also went on to say that Apple wanted to make sure the display, battery, and software were ready for the bigger form factor before shipping.
The iPhone 6 is the first post-Steve Jobs product to be released. In an article from CNN, Tim Cook spoke highly of his former boss:
“His spirit will always be at the foundation of the company. I literally think about him every day," Cook said. “If you think about the thing that Steve stood for at a macro level, he stood for innovation, he stood for the simple, not the complex...The fact that despite this table being so small that you and I are sitting at, you could put every Apple product on it, every - single one we ship today, and yet this year our revenues will be approximately $180 billion. There's probably no other company on the face of the earth that can say that.”
