Facebook Tests Feature That Lets Users Schedule Expiration Of Posts; Feature Only Made Available In Select Areas As Of The Moment; What You Need To Know

A Facebook feature is now on trial stage to let users control how long their posts would stay online.

According to the blog of The Next Web, the new feature will let you schedule in advance when your posts will be deleted.

A spokesperson for the Facebook said: "We're running a small pilot of a feature on Facebook for iOS that lets people schedule deletion of their posts in advance," TNW reported.

This clarification came after some iOS users noticed the feature in app earlier this week, the blog added.

TNW noted that this is not the first time that the social media giant made a trial to introduce new features. This also happened when Facebook users noticed that they were able to add stickers in their comments.

The blog described the expiring post feature in the initial screenshots, citing that it allow users to remove the posts after a certain time period, which could range from one to seven hours.

But it could also be noted that the deleted posts will not necessarily be deleted immediately from the Facebook's servers.

According to the said blog, it can take up to 90 days before posts could be deleted completely from offline backups and logs.

On Thursday, there was a question on a help page of Facebook asking how to "post something and set it to expire."

The Facebook answered: "Setting posts to expire is only available in some areas right now."
