News of TJ Lane Ohio Prison escape gripped the whole nation yesterday. Twitter and news shows were on red alert on the whereabouts of the suspect who killed three students and injured two others back in 2012 when fired shots at the Chardon High School. Lane, now 19, was sentenced to life without parole.
Apparently, he’s no Michael Scofield. After five hours since his escape from the Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution in Lima, northwestern Ohio, Lane and another inmate was captured by the police a few yards away from the prison. Another inmate, 45-year-old Clifford Opperud, though remains at large. Prison officials and police worked all day to track Lane and his company. They used infrared detection equipment and searched the area whole Saturday night while also ensuring that no home within the vicinity will let any strangers in on their homes.
While it is a relief that the fugitives have already been captured, it is still a big question how those three escaped, especially with the fact the Ohio prison have already been warned about the plan a day before. The TJ Lane Ohio Prison escape would have been prevented.
In a report by the AP, a union representing Ohio guards revealed that prison officials “were warned about an escape the day before three inmates, including a school shooter who killed three students.”
“One inmate was put in segregation when an escape plan was discovered on Wednesday, the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association said in a statement. That inmate was housed in the same unit as the three who escaped the following evening, and prison officials didn't take additional steps to secure the unit,” the union stated.
Because of the TJ Lane Ohio Prison Escape, the authorities now questioned why Lane is put in a place with minimal security. The Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution houses mostly lower risk prisoner but for Lane's kind, it is somewhat not capable.
"We are going to have to sit down and take a look at it and determine if Allen Oakwood was the place he was supposed to be," said warden Kevin Jones outside the facility shortly after the suspect's recapture.
