In this high-technology era where entire movies are impeccably animated, remaking becomes a trend. Universal announces its upcoming production of an animated "Grinch" movie in 2017.
Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment produced "The Grinch" film in 2000. Based on Dr. Seuss' "The Grinch", out came "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch.
Golden Globe awardee Jim Carrey is a comedian known for his work in "Dumb and Dumber" (1994), "Ace Ventura" (1994, 1995), and "Liar, Liar" (1997). As the Grinch, Carrey wore the whiskers, long fingers, green skin tone and the entire shebang - which brought the show an Academy Award for Best Makeup.
According to Box Office Mojo, the 2000 "Grinch" movie was a great financial success, following the box office sales of Christmas movie "Home Alone." The movie earned more than $300 million worldwide. This provides a bigger box office possibility for the "Grinch" movie 2017.
It however received mixed ratings for a Holiday season movie. According to Robert Ebert Review , "[it was] a dark, eerie, weird movie about a sour creature who lives on top of a mountain of garbage, scares children, is mean to his dog, and steals everyone's Christmas presents. There should be... a jollier production design and brighter look overall... It's just not much fun."
To date, the most recent Dr. Seuss books adapted into films are "The Lorax" (2012) and "Horton Hears A Who!" (2008).
In an interview with Hollywood.com, Carrey explains what the Grinch is. He says "The Grinch is a part of us all that builds defenses against the world because of the fear of not fitting in. The Grinch is someone who says, 'I don't want to be part of your party. I don't want to be invited.' He really wants to be. All he needs is some little Who to come up and melt his heart. He just wants to belong."
So far, information on the "Grinch" movie in 2017 includes release date set for November 17, 2017 and Peter Candeland to direct. No news on cast details yet.
