After only a year since its release, positive reception of the adventure survival horror video game merited "The Last of Us" movie adaptation.
Director Sam Raimi officially announced during Comic-Con that the adventure survival horror video game will be made into a film to be written by the game's writer, Neil Druckman.
"The Last of Us" is a post-apocalyptic story with two major protagonists Joel and Ellie. The game plays in third-person perspective, with players controlling Joel and Ellie through AI. They battle the streets with weapons, against both the infected and the hostile survivors.
In the recent Comic-Con, Sam Raimi and Neil Druckmann revealed details to the movie feature.
As the script is currently underway, Druckmann shared a bit about the movie plot: "I'd written an outline of what I though had to be cut, because it's a 15-hout game, and some changes were more drastic than others. I started describing a very different ending, and Sam was literally almost pulling his hair out." He continued on to say: "He convinced me to go back to a lot of the original material. The film doesn't need to be different, it just needs to capture the core of what made 'The Last of Us' special."
Insofar as the plot them goes, Raimi explained: "Ellie goes on this fantastic journey, she's a character you fall in love with, and you fall in love with Joel as he's fighting the desire to fall in love again, because use has so wounded 20 years ago - it's just such a great story."
Among the actors in mind to play Joel are Gerard Butler, Hugh Jackman, and Dylan McDermott. Although "The Last of Us" movie makers are rumored to have chosen Maisie Williams to play Ellie, online communities have been clamoring for Ellen Page as she shows high resemblance to the character.
"The Last of Us" movie has been rumored for release by late 2015, if production begins by this year.
