Google announced that they will open a startup campus in Seoul, South Korea next year.
Sundar Pichai, Google's senior vice president, announced Wednesday that Google Campus coming to Seoul and aptly called it Campus Seoul. Pichai said that Korea has some of the best innovators and entrepreneurs in Asia and their startup companies are making waves, especially with mobile applications worldwide. The multinational corporation specializing in Internet-related services expressed their desire to foster the booming community.
"We hope Campus Seoul can add a bit more jet fuel to a startup ecosystem that is already taking off," said Pichai in a post on the company blog for Asia and the Pacific.
Dubbed as Google for Entrepreneurs, Campuses allow entrepreneurs to connect and interact to build companies that will "change the world." Campus Seoul will also include Campus for Moms, a baby-friendly startup school, CampusEDU, workshops committed to educating new entrepreneurs, and Office Hours, Google's one-on-one expert advice service. The community will provide mentoring and trainings monitored by the Google community for startup enthusiasts.
This is the first in Asia and will also be part of Google for Entrepreneurs, linking Korean startup innovators to major global hubs across the globe.
The tech giant has been actively supporting the startup scene in Korea before with their programs and partnerships such as Global K-Startup program, KStartup Accelerator, Startup Weekend, and Startup Grind. This November, they will also launch Startup Nations, which connect policymakers and program leaders focusing on techie entrepreneurship ventures.
Google hopes to supercharge the emerging entrepreneurship scene in Korea by strengthening the support for tech entrepreneurs and innovators. The company promised to post more details soon about Campus Seoul as they still haven't finalized everything.
Campus Seoul will join the ranks of Campus Tel Aviv, Campus London, and the upcoming Campus Warsaw and Campus Sao Paulo.
