Hello Kitty is not a cat?
Last week Los Angeles Times article had created an outrageous revelation over the internet and news had been sprawling around that Sanrio character that was created 40 years ago is not a cat. It had drawn confusion about the character's true identity.
Quoted from Sanrio's website, "Hello Kitty is a cheerful and happy little girl with a heart of gold,"
Furthermore, according to Christine R. Yano, an anthropologist at the University of Hawaii and Harvard, told Los Angeles Times on August 26th.
" Hello Kitty is not a cat. She's a cartoon character. She is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She's never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature. She does have a pet cat of her own, however, and it's called Charmmy Kitty."
When Christine Yano asked Sanrio to "fact- check" captions for an exhibition to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty. She told Los Angeles Times that she "was corrected -- very firmly" by Sanrio that Kitty was not a cat.
Sanrio told AFP Tokyo, "It is a 100-percent personified character. The design takes the motif of a cat, but there is no element of a cat in Hello Kitty's setting."
Explained by the company's spokesperson to further support its statement that Hello Kitty is not cat.
Hello Kitty was born in the southern England on November 1, and her real name is Kitty White. She is Scorpio and her blood type is A. She has a pet cat named, Charmmy Kitty. She has a twin sister, Minny White, and lives in an unnamed suburb of London with father George and mother Mary. The twins are in third grade.
The 'Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty' exhibit opens on Oct. 11 and runs through Apr. 26, 2015, at the JANM, in downtown L.A. The Hello Kitty Con will be Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the nearby Geffen Contemporary at Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA).
Hello Kitty, a cat or not, has been a phenomenal character over the four decades.
